Avraam Papadopoulos ( Greek Αβραάμ Παπαδόπουλος , born December 3, 1984 in Melbourne , Australia ) is a Greek football player who is under contract with Olympiacos . His preferred position is central defense.

Career

Papadopoulos began his career with the Greek club Digenis Lakkomatos . In 2001 he moved to the Greek first division club Aris Thessaloniki . There, at the age of 18, he made the leap into the first team in 2002. In the early years, Papadopoulos played as a hanging tip. Gradually he oriented himself further on the defensive and was first used as a defensive midfielder and finally as a defender. In 2006 he moved from the position of right full-back to his current position, central defense.

In summer 2008 Papadopoulos moved to the Greek club Olympiacos Piraeus , to which he belonged until summer 2014.

In the summer of 2014 he moved to the Turkish Süper Lig for Trabzonspor on a free transfer . Already in the second half of the season his club sold him to the Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua for a transfer fee of 285,000 euros .

In the spring of 2017 he moved to Brisbane Roar in Australia .

National team

Avraam Papadopoulos played nine times in the Greek U-21 team during his years with Aris. On February 1, 2008 he was nominated by Otto Rehhagel for the first time for the Greek national team and made his debut on February 5, 2008 against the Czech Republic . He was in the squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Papadopoulos played all three preliminary round matches, but could not prevent the team from being eliminated. In the opening match of the 2012 European Football Championship against Poland , Papadopoulos tore a cruciate ligament and was out for several months.
