The Shanghai Greenland Shenhua Football Club ( Chinese  上海 绿地 申花 足球 俱乐部 , Pinyin Shànghǎi Lǜdì Shēnhuā Zúqiú Jùlèbù ), known in German-speaking countries as Shanghai Shenhua , is a Chinese football club from Kangqiao, a suburb of the city of Shanghai . He is represented in the highest league, the Chinese Super League (CSL) .

The club was founded on December 10, 1993 and plays in Hongkou Stadium (35,000 capacity) in Shanghai . The first sponsor was a local company called "Shenhua". In 2001 the sponsor changed and the club's official name has since been "Shanghai Shenhua SVA SMEG Football Club (SFC)". In 2007, entrepreneur Zhu Jun, who also owns city rivals Shanghai United, bought a large stake in the club. He named the club after "Shanghai Shenhua Liansheng Football Club".

successes

Shanghai Shenhua won the Chinese championship in the then top division (Jia A) in 1995 and 2003 . In the years 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2001 the 2nd place could be achieved. The 2003 title was revoked in 2013 for fraud.

In 2004 the Chinese Super League (CSL) was founded as the new top division. The best season in the CSL had Shanghai Shenhua 2005 when they won the runner-up title.

Further successes are the 1998 Cup victory and the 1996, 1999 and 2002 Super Cup. In November 2017, Shanghai Shenhua won the Chinese FA Cup against arch rivals Shanghai SIPG in their Shanghai Stadium .

Known players

In 2006, Shanghai Shenhua was the employer of Carsten Jancker , who signed a contract for one year at 1. FC Kaiserslautern after being retired . Another well-known player was Jörg Albertz , who came from Hamburger SV and played in Shanghai from 2002/03 to the end of 2004. Sun Xiang also played for Shanghai Shenhua from 1997 to 2006, before moving first to PSV Eindhoven and in summer 2008 to Vienna Austria . In January 2012 Nicolas Anelka was signed by Chelsea FC . The former French international and top scorer in the English Premier League was the most famous signing in the club's history to date. On June 20, 2012, Anelka's former and now renewed team-mate and Champions League winner Didier Drogba confirmed his move to Shanghai after his contract with Chelsea had expired. Both left the club after a short time.

For the 2015 season, the Australian international Tim Cahill moved to the team. The Greek international Avraam Papadopoulos and Demba Ba , who was signed by Beşiktaş Istanbul for the club's record transfer fee of 13 million euros, have also played since 2015 .

For the 2016 season , the Colombian international Fredy Guarín was also detached from Inter Milan for a sum of 13 million euros .

On December 29, 2016, Carlos Tévez was signed by the Argentine first division club Boca Juniors for a sum of 10.5 million euros and is considered the best-paid footballer in the world with an annual salary of around 40 million euros.
