The Tianjin Tianhai Football Club Chinese  天津 天 海 足球 俱乐部 , Pinyin Tiānjīn Tiānhǎi Zúqiú Jùlèbù , until January 2019 still Tianjin Quanjian , is a Chinese football club from Tianjin . The association was founded on June 6, 2006. After its founding, the club began in the last possible league of the Chinese football system and in 2011 made it to the second-rate China League One . After five years in the second division, the club rose to the Chinese Super League for the 2017 season , but withdrew from it in 2020.

history

On June 6, 2006, Tianjin Binhai Holdings Limited Company established the club, then called Hohhot Binhai , and appointed former player Han Jinming as the coach. On May 5, 2007, Tianjin Songjiang Sports Culture Industry Co. Ltd. the club and hired the record scorer of the Chinese national team Hao Haidong as chief executive.

After finishing the table with a disappointing fifth place in their first season in the club's history, the club was restructured: Haidong became the new president, Jinming the new general manager and Zhang Xiaorui became the new coach. In addition, the entire club moved to Tianjin.

Under Xiaorui, the club could achieve better results, but did not get beyond the play-off places and so Songjiang soon separated from Xiaorui and replaced him with Patrick De Wilde , with whom the promotion could be achieved in the 2010 season. In the following season, the club fought against relegation and was only just able to prevent it. After the season, De Wilde was fired and replaced by his assistant Hao Haitao .

On July 7, 2015 it was announced that the company "Quanjian Natural Medicine" had taken over the association. As a result, the club name was changed to "Tianjin Quanjian FC". The former Real Madrid coach, Vanderlei Luxemburgo from Brazil, took over the coaching position for the 2016 season. The Brazilian Luís Fabiano was signed for one year with an option, as was the Brazilian Jádson for two years. Geuvânio was presented as the last foreign addition . After a series of eight games without a win in the first half of the 2016 season, Luxemburgo was sacked and replaced by Italian Fabio Cannavaro . With a victory over Meizhou Hakka in October 2016, the renewed promotion to the Chinese Super League could be fixed. Before the second half of the 2017 season, Anthony Modeste was signed by 1. FC Köln. In the first season in the Chinese House of Lords, third place was achieved. Head coach Cannavaro joined the champions Guangzhou Evergrande after the season. The Italian was replaced by the Portuguese Paulo Sousa.

In the months around the turn of the year 2018/19, the club initially hit the headlines because of outstanding salaries, which is why several players tried to leave the club extraordinarily. In early January 2019, club president and funder Shu Yuhui was arrested for incidents related to his business activities. Control of the club passed to the Tianjin Province Football Association and the sponsor's name was removed from the club's name. For the 2019 season, the club is expected to compete under the name Tianjin Tianhai.

Before the start of the 2020 season , which was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic , it was announced that the team will withdraw from the Super League. The place will be taken by FC Shenzhen .
