Chongqing Lifan ( Chinese  重庆 力帆 , Pinyin Chóngqìng Lìfān ) is a football club from Chongqing in the People's Republic of China . The club plays in the Chinese Super League , the top division in the country. The association is owned by the Lifan Group. The club plays its home games at the Chongqing Olympic Sports Center .

Club history

There have been numerous name changes. The association has been calling itself by its current name since 2000. After the club was relegated in 2003, the team and license of the Yunnan Hongta were bought up without further ado , thus ensuring that they remain in the Chinese Super League. The greatest success in the recent history of the club was winning the Chinese Association Cup in 2000. This also resulted in the first participation in an international competition. In the Asian Cup winners competition , the team reached the semi-finals and finished in 4th place. 2005 and 2006 Chongqing Lifan occupied the last place in the table. This would have resulted in the sporting descent. In both seasons there was no relegation from the league, which is why the club was able to continue playing in the CSL. In 2007 they finished last again, but this time there was no escape from relegation. A year later the direct ascent succeeded. The best-known player was the Brazilian Aílton, who moved to Chongqing Lifan on July 22, 2009, but left the club in late 2009 for Uerdingen.
