Jörg Albertz (born January 29, 1971 in Mönchengladbach ) is a former German soccer player .
Career
In childhood and adolescence Albertz played for PSV Mönchengladbach and Borussia Mönchengladbach . The left midfielder then signed his first professional contract with Fortuna Düsseldorf in 1990 . After the relegation of the Rhinelander from the 2nd Bundesliga , Albertz moved to Hamburger SV in 1993 , where he quickly became a crowd favorite and two years later also became team captain.
In the summer of 1996 he then moved to the traditional Scottish club Glasgow Rangers . Jörg Albertz won the championship title with the Rangers in 1997, 1999 and 2000 before returning to Hamburger SV in 2001 . There he could not build on the performances shown in previous years and moved to the Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua during the 2002/03 season . In 2003 he was voted Soccer Player of the Year in China .
At the end of 2004 Albertz finally returned to Germany and wore the jersey of the second division club SpVgg Greuther Fürth for half a year . Several injuries meant that this stint was a short one; since July 1, 2005, the midfielder was again under contract with Fortuna Düsseldorf , but only in the regional league .
After the 2006/07 season, Albertz ended his career for the time being. However, the comeback followed only six months later. On March 11, 2008 Albertz signed a short-term contract until the end of the 2007/08 season with the Scottish second division club FC Clyde , whose relegation he helped secure.
After finishing his career, Albertz runs a football school with Hans-Georg Dreßen , which also organizes holiday camps in the Mönchengladbach area.
