The vehicles of the F and F 2 series were locomotives of the Royal Württemberg State Railways .

Although the company had already Kessler 1849-1851 five C n2 locomotives of Albklasse delivered, but these were unusual for their time too heavy and rebuilt in 2'B locomotives. The increased demands in train service required triple-coupled locomotives, so that from 1864 to 1880 98 specimens of type F were delivered without any major changes. This includes ten replacement locomotives for early retired units. Their execution was based on the North German architectural style. The boiler pressure was 9 kgf / cm² to 10 kgf / cm².

These locomotives were initially used on the route between Ulm and Geislingen an der Steige . The superstructure had previously been reinforced there. They should be used for increasing freight traffic.

A Württemberg F 2 in motion

It was not until 1889 that six more locomotives of a similar design were delivered, which were operated with the same wheel diameter and wheelbase with 12 kp / cm² boiler pressure and instead of 480 mm had a cylinder diameter of only 450 mm. They were designated as class F 2. From 1890 to 1892, 8 class F locomotives were equipped with new boilers that corresponded to those of class F 2 and initially designated as class Fa, from 1906 as class F 2. By 1910, 88 other class F machines were equipped with class F 2 boilers and cylinders and immediately assigned to them. One of the converted locomotives, which was put into operation in 1867 with the name "Schussenried" and converted in 1891, was taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn and was given the road number 53 8301. The converted locomotives had a service weight of 38 t and an average axle load of 12 , 7 t.

The vehicles had type 2 T 6.5 tenders , later wü. 2T10.

Similar locomotives built from 1890 in composite design were classified as class Fc .
