The class Fc locomotives of the Württemberg State Railroad , class 53.8 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn , were triple-coupled freight train steam locomotives.

history

Based on the design of the class F , the composite locomotives of the class Fc were developed. They were the first freight locomotives to use this design. In order to better distribute the masses, the boiler had to be moved to the rear. The higher friction mass also resulted in higher performance. The locomotives reached a speed of 45 km / h on the level with a 1,000 t train and 25 km / h on a slope of 10 ‰ and 370 t on the hook.

The first locomotives were delivered by the Esslingen machine factory in 1890 . The first series was delivered until 1892. The locomotives had a fixed wheelbase of 3,200 mm instead of the preferred 3,000 mm. Therefore, attempts were made in vain to achieve better and safer cornering behavior with the class F 1c and F 1 locomotives with Klose engines. The production of class Fc locomotives was therefore resumed in 1896. Up to 1909 a total of 125 machines (track numbers 611 to 735) had been produced, eight of them by the Esslingen state railway workshop. The locomotives with the numbers 611 to 640 were given names. In 1925, 65 locomotives were redrawn from the Deutsche Reichsbahn to 53 801 to 53 865. The retirement took place by the end of the twenties. At the same time, 19 Württembergische Fc were in service with the PKP as the Th102 series.

Constructive features

The class Fc locomotives had a sheet metal inner frame. The Crampton boiler was moved backwards compared to the previous F series in order to balance the higher weight of the composite cylinders. The suspension had to be redesigned due to the changed position of the standing boiler. The spring end of the rear suspension spring was supported directly on the axle bearing of the third axle. The first two axles were each cushioned by two springs above the axle box.

The two-cylinder composite wet steam engine was arranged horizontally on the outside. The Allan controls were internal. The cross head was guided in two rails. The drive rod acted on the central axis. A screw brake on the tender served as a brake. A Westinghouse compressed air brake was installed later.

The vehicles were equipped with Wuerttemberg type 2 T 10 tenders .
