Omar Elabdellaoui (born December 5, 1991 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian football player of Moroccan descent. He is a right full-back , but can also be used in right midfield.

Club career

Youth and Manchester City

Elabdellaoui began his career in the youth of Skeid Oslo . At the age of 16 he moved to Manchester City . In an interview with Norwegian broadcaster TV 2 in January 2010, U-18 coach Scott Sellars predicted a “great future” for him. Elabdellaoui convinced with good training performances in the youth; he was nominated for the first team for the Europa League game against Juventus Turin on December 16, 2010. Elabdellaoui made his debut for Manchester City's second team on October 6, 2009 in a 3-2 win over the Sunderland reserves . In total, he played twelve games in the Premier Reserve League . A broken foot was followed by a loan to Strømsgodset IF.

Loan to Strømsgodset IF

On March 31, 2011, the last day of the Norwegian transfer window, Elabdellaoui was awarded to the Drammen club Strømsgodset IF together with his teammates Mohammed Abu and Razak Nuhu until the start of the season in England . His debut on April 3, 2011 ended with a 5-1 loss to Start Kristiansand . He played eight games until he broke his foot against Fredrikstad FK on May 28, 2011 and returned to Manchester to recover . On September 1, 2011, he returned to Drammen until the end of the 2011 season and played twice with the team.

After the end of that season, Strømsgodset IF wanted to loan Elabdellaoui again for the 2012 season, but Elabdellaoui was reluctant to play at Marienlyst Stadium again, fearing that the artificial turf would injure him again. So he initially returned to Manchester City .

Loan to Rotterdam

In June 2012 Elabdellaoui signed a two-year contract with Manchester City and was then awarded to the Dutch first division club Feyenoord Rotterdam in July 2012 for the 2012/13 season . In the Eredivisie he made his debut on September 2, 2012 (4th matchday) at Feyenoords 0-1 defeat against Vitesse Arnhem . In total, however, he only made five appearances in the first half of the 2012/13 season . He made his international debut in the playoffs of the UEFA Europa League in a 2-2 draw against Sparta Prague.

Eintracht Braunschweig

In January 2013 it was awarded to the German second division club Eintracht Braunschweig for the rest of the season , who also secured a purchase option. The move was recommended by his cousin Mohammed Abdellaoue, who was also a professional footballer and at that time was under contract with arch rivals Hannover 96 . In his first three games he prepared three goals. In May 2013, Eintracht Braunschweig made use of the purchase option and signed a contract with Elabdellaoui until June 30, 2015. During this time, he made his football breakthrough and became a national player.

At the end of the season he rose to second place in the Bundesliga with Braunschweig . In this he made his debut on August 10, 2013 (1st matchday) in the 0-1 defeat in the home game against Werder Bremen . On September 15, 2013 (5th match day) he scored his first Bundesliga goal with the goal to make it 1-1 in the 70th minute in the home game against 1. FC Nürnberg . He was in the starting line-up in 16 of the 17 season games.

Olympiacos Piraeus

After relegation with Eintracht Braunschweig, Elabdellaoui moved to the Greek record champions Olympiacos Piraeus for the 2014/15 season . In 2015 he was named Norway's Footballer of the Year.

Hull City

On January 20, 2017 Elabdellaoui moved to the English first division club Hull City on loan until the end of the season . He met again with coach Marco Silva , under whom he had already played in the 2015/16 season at Olympiacos.

Galatasaray Istanbul

For the 2020/21 season, the full-back moved to Galatasaray Istanbul on a free transfer and signed a three-year contract.

National team

From U-15 to U-23, Elabdellaoui went through all Norwegian junior national teams and took part with the U-21 national team at the 2013 European Championships in Israel . On August 14, 2013 he played for the senior national team for the first time in a friendly against the Swedes .
