The Premier Reserve League (officially: Barclays Premier Reserve League ) was in England from 1999 to 2012 the top division for reserve teams of the professional clubs of the English top division Premier League . It was divided into a northern and a southern league, which were officially referred to as "Barclays Premiership Reserve League North" or "Barclays Premiership Reserve League South" after the sponsor name.

The league was created in 1999 and replaced the "Central League" in the north and the "Football Combination" in the south, which previously served as the top division for the reserve teams and still exist today for lower-class clubs.

The relegation from the Premier Reserve League did not take place after the sporting performance of the reserve teams, but after that of the clubs' first teams. If a team was relegated from the Premier League, the corresponding reserve team was relegated from the Premier Reserve League and replaced by the second team of the promoted team from the Championship .

The last event took place in the 2011/12 season. The league was replaced by the U-21 Premier League .

Premier Reserve League winner

The league played since the 2004/05 season after the end of the regular season from a final between the winner of the Northern and the Southern Division. Manchester United's second team won 4-2 against the reserve selection from Charlton Athletic at the premiere at The Valley Stadium .

In 2010 the “Aston Villa Reserves” became the first team to become champions of a division of the Premier Reserve League for three consecutive years. With a total of five titles as division champions, however, Manchester was the most successful team in the league, which was also four times overall winner.
