Michelbach-le-Haut ( German Ober-Michelbach ) is a French commune with 597 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Mulhouse , the canton of Saint-Louis and the municipality of Saint-Louis Agglomération .
geography
The community of Michelbach-le-Haut is located in the southeast of the Sundgau , about twelve kilometers west of Basel city center.
Neighboring communities of Michelbach-le-Haut are Ranspach-le-Bas in the north, Attenschwiller in the east, Wentzwiller in the southeast, Folgensbourg in the south, Muespach-le-Haut in the southwest and Knœringue in the west.
history
From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Michelbach-le-Haut belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Mulhouse in the district of Upper Alsace .
From 1915 on, the community owned a common train station with Attenschwiller on the Waldighoffen – Saint-Louis-la-Chaussée railway line . This comprised two sidings and a loading siding. Passenger traffic was discontinued in 1955 and the line closed in 1960.

Attractions
- Saint Jacques le Majeur Church ( St. James the Elder ), a neo-Gothic building from 1868/1869. Stones from the abolished Benedictine monastery were used for the construction.
