Folgensbourg ( German Volkensberg , Alsatian Folgeschburg ) is a French commune with 918 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). The municipality in Sundgau is located 15 kilometers west of Basel and 22 kilometers southeast of Altkirch .
history
Folgensbourg was first mentioned at the end of the 12th century as Volkholdesberg (1371 Volkholzberg) and has belonged to France since the Peace of Westphalia with interruptions from 1871 to 1919.
From 1915 on, the community owned a common train station with Muespach-le-Haut on the Waldighoffen – Saint-Louis-la-Chaussée railway line . This comprised two sidings and a loading siding. Passenger traffic was discontinued in 1955 and the line closed in 1960.
