history

The first plans to build a railway line from Saint-Louis to Waldighoffen date back to 1895. The decision of the Reichseisenbahnen in Alsace-Lorraine to build this railway line was made in 1908; construction work begins in 1912/13. The first trains started running as early as 1914, when the First World War broke out , the sparse traffic had to be stopped again. On March 17, 1915, the line was opened for freight traffic. After the First World War, the route was not passable and had to be repaired. Passenger traffic could begin on March 1, 1920. On May 2, 1922, Alsace-Lorraine (AL) took over the route.

The last passenger train ran on the route on March 28, 1955. Freight traffic on the Waldighoffen – Blotzheim section ended on June 13, 1957; this section of the route was closed on May 24, 1960. Freight trains operated on the section from Blotzheim to Saint-Louis until September 27, 1992.
