history

The place is first mentioned in a document from 728 under the name Flobestesheim as the property of the Murbach monastery . From the 13th to the 17th century, the village belonged to the Habsburg Front Austria , after which it came to France and shared the history of Alsace . From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Blotzheim belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Mulhouse in the district of Upper Alsace .

From 1915 on, the community owned a train station on the Waldighoffen – Saint-Louis-la-Chaussée line . This comprised three sidings and a loading siding. Passenger traffic was discontinued in 1955. Freight trains ran from Saint-Louis to Blotzheim until 1992.

In the village is the Blotzheim Castle from 1730, the previous building of which was owned by Georg Christoph von Taupadel . The Glutz von Blotzheim family and a side branch of the Salomon family were once wealthy here.
