Blotzheim (Alsatian Blohze ) is a French commune with 4526 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) on the edge of the Sundgau , which belongs to the canton of Saint-Louis in the arrondissement of Mulhouse in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ).

The place is between Mulhouse in the northwest (about 24 km) and Basel (Switzerland) in the southeast (just under 10 km). Basel-Mulhouse Airport is located on the eastern edge of Blotzheim . Since the transfer of the district of Neuweg (La Chaussée) to the city of Saint-Louis in 1958 , the airport is no longer in the municipality of Blotzheim.
history
The place is first mentioned in a document from 728 under the name Flobestesheim as the property of the Murbach monastery . From the 13th to the 17th century, the village belonged to the Habsburg Front Austria , after which it came to France and shared the history of Alsace . From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Blotzheim belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Mulhouse in the district of Upper Alsace .
From 1915 on, the community owned a train station on the Waldighoffen – Saint-Louis-la-Chaussée line . This comprised three sidings and a loading siding. Passenger traffic was discontinued in 1955. Freight trains ran from Saint-Louis to Blotzheim until 1992.
In the village is the Blotzheim Castle from 1730, the previous building of which was owned by Georg Christoph von Taupadel . The Glutz von Blotzheim family and a side branch of the Salomon family were once wealthy here.
