history

Archaeological finds, which are now in the Historical Museum in Mulhouse, bear witness to a settlement on the Ruetchyberg . Dated to 5300 BC, they are among the oldest evidence of a rural culture in Central Europe.

The first known mention of this place was in 736 under the name Eistatis . The Murbach Abbey , Einsiedeln Monastery and later the Basel administration had properties under the spell of Stetten. Like the surrounding villages, Stetten was under the feudal rule of Landser for a long time . After the rule of the Habsburgs, Stetten came under the control of the French kings after 1648.
