Uffheim is a French commune with 885 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Mulhouse , the canton of Brunstatt and the municipality of Saint-Louis Agglomération .

geography

Uffheim is about halfway between Mulhouse and Basel and about one and a half kilometers southwest of Sierentz . The municipal area covers 436 hectares and is 270 to 319 meters above sea level. Three brooks flow in parallel from west to east through the municipality: the Sauruntz , the Muehlbach and the Eschenbachgraben .

history

Uffheim was first mentioned in writing in 916 in connection with a donation to the Einsiedeln monastery . The area around Uffheim and Sierentz was already settled during the Bronze Age, which excavations have confirmed.

The village was subordinate to the Vogtei in Landser , later to the Habsburgs until 1648 , ecclesiastically it belonged to the St. Alban Monastery in Basel .

The current church was built in 1829 in place of a chapel that was made a parish church in 1782.
