Riedisheim (Alsatian Riedese ) is a French town with 12,645 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). The city belongs to the arrondissement of Mulhouse and the canton of Rixheim .
geography
Riedisheim is about 30 km away from Basel (Switzerland) and to Müllheim (Germany) the distance is about 20 km. The municipality of Riedisheim connects directly to the south-east of the city center of Mulhouse . The Canal du Rhône au Rhin (German Rhine-Rhône Canal ) runs in the north of the municipality .
Neighboring communities of Riedisheim are Illzach in the north, Rixheim in the east, Bruebach in the south, Brunstatt in the southwest and Mulhouse in the west and northwest.
history
Riedisheim was first mentioned in 1004 under the name Rudinisheim . The place has had its current name since 1832. In the 15th century it came at the request of Emperor Maximilian I to the lords of Thierstein . The coat of arms depicting a stag comes from the coat of arms of this sex.
From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Riedisheim belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Mulhouse in the district of Upper Alsace .
