Zillisheim is a French commune with 2572 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ).

geography

The community of Zillisheim is located on the right side of the Ill , a few kilometers south of Mulhouse . Zillisheim has a train station on the Paris – Mulhouse line , where the TER Alsace and TER Franche-Comté trains stop . Neighboring communities of Zillisheim are Didenheim in the north, Brunstatt in the northeast, Flaxlanden in the east, Steinbrunn-le-Haut in the southeast, Luemschwiller in the south, Illfurth in the southwest, Frœningen in the west and Hochstatt in the northwest.

history

Zillisheim is one of the oldest villages in Alsace. It is first mentioned in 792 as Zullineshaim . Later Zilleneshaim or Züllisheim are also mentioned as names , then in 1448 Zulissen .

In the 17th century, the place came to a branch of the Lords of Pfirt , who built a castle with 365 windows there. Several members of these families were also buried there.

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Zillisheim belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Mulhouse in the district of Upper Alsace .
