Rixheim (Alsatian Rixa ) is a French town with 13,902 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). The city belongs to the arrondissement of Mulhouse and the canton of Rixheim .
geography
Rixheim is just under six kilometers east of Mulhouse . The Rixheim sword is named after its first location . A commander of the Teutonic Order was located here , whose building, which still exists today, was built by Johann Caspar Bagnato . It was subordinate to the Deutschordensballei Altshausen .
Neighboring communities of Rixheim are Sausheim in the north, Ottmarsheim in the northeast, Hombourg in the east, Habsheim and Zimmerheim in the south, Bruebach in the southwest, Riedisheim in the west and Illzach in the northwest.

history
Rixheim was first mentioned in 823 under the name Richeneshies . For a long time the place was a center of wallpaper production . This fact owes the existence of the wallpaper museum. It is located on the site of the wallpaper production of Zuber et Cie , the Coming of the Teutonic Order, which has been in existence since 1797 and shows the history of wallpaper from the 18th century to today.

education
Rixheim is the seat of a state secondary school, the Collège Capitaine Dreyfus named after Alfred Dreyfus . There are also four kindergartens, four elementary schools and a music school in the city.

In Rixheim there are the old buildings of a commander of the Teutonic Order , the town church of St. Leodegar, a fountain depicting Johannes Nepomuk , a memorial for the fallen and a wallpaper museum ( Musée du papier peint ).
