Geispitzen was first mentioned in a document in 1276 as Geispotzheim . The village belonged to the Seigneurie von Landser , which in turn belonged to the Habsburgs since the 13th century . Geispitz suffered from military conflicts between Basel and the Holy Roman Empire in the 15th and 16th centuries . Two main building periods can be identified, towards the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th century after the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648).

In 1793 Geispitzen (as Geispitz ) received in the course of the French Revolution (1789–1799) the status of a municipality and in 1801 the right to local self-government. In 1871 the community was incorporated into the German Empire due to changes in territory due to the course of the Franco-German War (1870–1871) . After the First World War (1914-1918) it fell back to France.

During the Second World War (1939-1945) parts of the village were destroyed.
