Mairie Habsheim

Habsheim (Alsatian Habse ) is a French commune with 4894 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). The municipality is located in the canton of Rixheim .

geography

The community is on the edge of the Upper Rhine Plain , about seven kilometers southeast of the city center of Mulhouse .

history

Habsheim was first mentioned in a document in 757 under the name Habuhinesheim , home of Habuchino , a Frankish gentleman.

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Habsheim belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Mulhouse in the district of Upper Alsace .

On June 26, 1988 fell on the Mulhouse-Habsheim Airport an Airbus A320-100 of Air France at a demonstration flight ( Air France Flight 296 ), and claimed three lives.

Habsheim is on the Strasbourg – Basel railway line and the A 35 autoroute (junction 33). Départementsstrasse 201, which runs from the state border near Basel to the Île Napoléon, runs through the village .

The Mulhouse-Habsheim airfield, which has existed since 1909 and is mainly used for hobby aviation, is located in the area of Rixheim and Habsheim. During the First World War, Ernst Udet , who was a member of Jagdstaffel 15 (Jasta 15), was stationed here for a time .
