The arrondissement Mulhouse [myluz] (German Mulhouse , Alsatian Milhüüse ) is an administrative district in the Haut-Rhin department in the French region of Grand Est (until the end of 2015 Alsace ).

history

On March 4, 1790, with the establishment of the Haut-Rhin department, a "District Altkirch" was founded, which at that time also comprised the area of what is now the arrondissement of Mulhouse. On February 17, 1800 it became part of the newly established arrondissement Altkirch. It was not until 1857 that what was then the arrondissement of Altkirch became the arrondissement of Mulhouse (Mulhouse).

Since May 18, 1871, the present-day area belonged to the district of Mulhouse in the Upper Rhine district of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine in the new German Empire. At that time the district covered 626 km² and had (1885) 144,046 inhabitants.

After the First World War, in the course of the incorporation of Alsace into France, the administrative division was taken over on June 28, 1919 and the (new) arrondissement of Mulhouse was established.
