The Arrondissement Sarreguemines ( German district or district Saargemünd ) is an administrative unit in the French department of Moselle in the Grand Est region (until the end of 2015 Lorraine ). The main town ( sub-prefecture ) is Saargemünd .
It consists of three cantons ( French cantons ), which in turn consist of 83 municipalities (French communes ).
The arrondissement emerged from the districts of Bitsch , Mörchingen and Saargemünd, which existed from 1790 to 1795 and was almost identical to the Saargemünd district from 1871 to 1920 and the Saargemünd district from 1940 to 1944.

The highest elevations in the district are the southwest shoulder of the Garnfirst in Philippsbourg with approx. 510 m above sea level NN (summit at 554 m above sea level is on the Alsatian side), the Arnsberg ( 473 m above sea level ) in Baerenthal , the Hoher Reissen ( 454 m above sea level ) in Stürzelbronn and the Weihersberg ( 451 m above sea level ) in Philippsbourg.
Neighboring areas
The district borders in a clockwise direction in the northwest on the Saarbrücken regional association and the Saarpfalz district (both in Saarland ) as well as the Südwestpfalz district in Rhineland-Palatinate . In the east and south it borders on the districts of Hagenau-Weißenburg and Zabern and thus on the Alsatian department of Bas-Rhin . In the southwest and west, it borders on the Lorraine districts of Saarburg-Salzburg and Forbach-Bolchen .
