Bettviller ( German Bettweiler ) is a French commune with 831 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Sarreguemines and the canton of Bitche and is a member of the Bitscher Land community association .

Bettviller is located between Sarreguemines and Bitche in a rural landscape in the Bickenalb valley . The districts of Hoelling (German Höllingen ) and Guising (German Gisingen ) connect to the south and west of the core town of Bettviller.

history

Bedebur was first mentioned in 1154, but later the place was desolate and was not settled again until the 16th century.

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Bettweiler belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Saargemünd district in the Lorraine district .
