Grundviller (German Grundweiler ) is a French commune with 658 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Sarreguemines arrondissement .

geography

The municipality of Grundviller is located ten kilometers southwest of Sarreguemines at an altitude between 222 and 272 m above sea level. The municipality covers 6.27 km².

history

The village was first mentioned in 1423 as Gruntwiller . In the Thirty Years' War it was completely destroyed, in 1766 it came to France.

The previous French official name Grundwiller was Frenchized to its current form in 1945.
