Rohrbach-lès-Bitche ( German: Rohrbach or Rohrbach b. Bitsch ) is a French commune with 2,283 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Sarreguemines and the Canton of Bitche .
geography
The small town is located 15 kilometers west of Bitche and 36 kilometers south-southeast of Saarbrücken in the Pays de Bitche ("Bitscher Ländchen") in the open land of the Lorraine plateau .
history
Rohrbach belonged to the area of the Counts of Zweibrücken-Bitsch until they died out in 1570 and then to Lorraine. At the end of the 18th century it became the capital of the no longer existing canton of the same name , which comprised 15 municipalities.
