Fritz Hauser
Fritz Hauser (born March 29, 1953 in Basel ) is a Swiss drummer and composer . With his solo projects he has "opened up new spaces in percussion music" and taken an important step in developing the drum kit from a rhythm machine to an independent instrument (Kunzler).
Live and act
Fritz Hauser belonged to the art rock group Circus from 1972 to 1980 , with whom he went on international tours and recorded four albums. He then worked with the Blue Motion group , but also with ensembles in the field of early music and the avant-garde .
In 1983 he appeared for the first time with a full-length solo program (CD solo drumming ) and went on an international tour. Further solo programs and projects for drums and percussion followed , which Hauser performs worldwide. He developed cross-disciplinary works with the dancer / choreographer Anna Huber and with the architect Boa Baumann. He created compositions for drum ensembles and soloists, sound installations in the Therme Vals , Castel Burio, the Basel Architecture Museum , the Vincent Van Gogh Arles Foundation, as well as films, radio plays and readings. Hauser also became known through large-scale outdoor projects, most recently the Maximus sound machine in the Roman Theater in Augusta Raurica.
In the field of improvised music , he plays with numerous musicians such as Urs Leimgruber , Joëlle Léandre , Marilyn Crispell , Christy Doran , Pauline Oliveros , Lauren Newton , Joe McPhee , Franz Koglmann , Patrick Demenga and Bob Becker. In the field of percussion he has been working and giving concerts with various percussion soloists and ensembles around the world since the "Stockholm International Percussion Event" in 1998: Kroumata, Steven Schick, Keiko Abe , Vanessa Tomlinson, Synergy Percussion, Michael Askill, Speak Percussion, Nexus and We Spoke.
Hauser received the Radio Basel Foundation's radio play award in 1990 for his radio play Steinschlag and in 1998 for his radio play Fantasia Zolliologica . In 2012 he was awarded the Culture Prize of the City of Basel . Fritz Hauser contributed projects to the “childhood” theme as “composer in residence” at the Lucerne Festival 2018. These include four of his own world premieres as well as the large-scale choir drum project he has organized and directed .
