Fritz Hauser (born June 3, 1884 in Basel , † March 26, 1941 in Bern ) was a Swiss politician ( SP ).

Fritz Hauser, the son of a tailor's apprentice, studied economics at the University of Basel after training as a primary and secondary school teacher . In 1915 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. As a member of the Social Democratic Party, he went through a political career: 1911-1918 he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt , 1918-1941 he was a member of the government. He promoted the establishment of the state widow's and orphan's fund, the introduction of the mandatory. Accident insurance for schoolchildren, school welfare, maturity courses for adults and the adult education center. As head of the education department from 1919, he had a decisive influence on Basel's educational and cultural policy. During his term of office, the revision of the School and University Act, the creation of the Basel City Art Credit , as well as the construction of the Basel Art Museum and the Kollegienhaus of the University of Basel on Petersplatz. From 1919 to 1941 he sat in the National Council, which he presided over from 1937 to 1938. After the annexation of Austria , Hauser supported the proclamation of the Federal Council and the parliamentary groups regarding the neutrality of Switzerland. Hauser made a name for himself in the National Council as a financial politician and member of the business audit committee.

As a member of the Old Boys , Fritz Hauser gave his defense speech against the boycott of the Swiss Football Association at the delegates' meeting in Lucerne in 1912 . The boycott was imposed because of an illegal friendly game against the Nordstern Basel football club and, thanks to Fritz Hauser's speech, was lifted.

Fritz Hauser can also be seen in the group picture Meeting of the Basel Art Credit Commission , which Jean Jacques Lüscher (1884–1955) painted in 1930.
