Haspelschiedt ( German Haspelscheidt ) is a French commune with 303 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Sarreguemines and the Canton of Bitche .

geography

The municipality of Haspelschiedt is located in the far northeast of Lorraine, near the border with the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate . The municipality of Haspelschiedt is part of the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park and the Palatinate Forest-Northern Vosges Biosphere Reserve .

The Schwarzbach was dammed above Haspelschiedt. There are fishing and camping opportunities at this reservoir called Haspelscheider Weiher . The southeast half of the 2000 m long reservoir is part of the restricted military area Camp militaire de Bitche ( Bitsch military training area ).

history

The village was first mentioned in 1544 as Haspelschid. Other names were Haspelschille (1793) and Haspelchitt (1801).
