Soucht ( German and Lorraine also addiction ) is a French commune with 1,049 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Sarreguemines arrondissement and the Bitche canton and is part of the cross-border Palatinate Forest-Northern Vosges biosphere reserve .
geography
The place is located about 15 kilometers southwest of Bitche in the Palatinate Forest-Vosges du Nord biosphere reserve . The place has almost grown together with the neighboring Meisenthal to the northeast . To maintain the landscape, the meadows around Soucht, which are threatened by bushes, are grazed by Scottish highland cattle.
history
In 1629 a glassmaker from Münzthal was given permission to set up a new factory. An anecdote has been handed down that when the glassmaker asked where he should settle, the sovereign replied: “Sucht! »(= Look for!). This then became the name of the settlement. The Soucht glazier was the only one of the numerous glassworks in Bitscher Land to survive the Thirty Years' War . When the wood available in the area was used up around 1700, the company relocated to Meisenthal and continued there until 1969. Prior to 1930, the craft that developed in Soucht clog . At that time, wooden shoes (in the Lothringer Platt Klumpe ) were widely used in the regional glass and steel industry as footwear and protection against hot liquids. One of the last of more than 60 clog makers (fr: sabotiers) is still active in Soucht today.

Culture and sights
A 17th century mill has been out of service since 1892. The parish church of St. Vierge was built in 1770; it houses three glass candlesticks and a depiction of the stations of the cross . The museum of wooden shoe production was set up in a faithfully preserved workshop.

- Soucht is located on Départementsstrasse D 83 ( Meisenthal - Rahling ).
- In 1897 the branch line from Wingen to Münzthal was built and Soucht also got a train station. With the decline of the glass industry, the railway line was shut down in 1969.
