Puttelange-aux-Lacs (German: Püttlingen , Rheinfänkisch: Pittlinge ) is a French commune with 3,025 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Sarreguemines arrondissement and the Sarreguemines Confluences municipality
geography
Characteristic for the immediate vicinity of Puttelange are the numerous ponds that were created by damming the source rivers of the Mutterbach ( Moderbach ), a tributary of the Albe . In the Puttelanges area, there are two of the larger reservoirs, the Étang de Diefenbach and the Étang de Welschhof (each over 20 ha). They were created as part of the Maginot Line and have meanwhile been developed for tourism (camping) and local recreation and are particularly popular with anglers. The relief around Puttelange is slightly hilly and slopes gently towards the southeast along the Mutterbachtal. A quarter of the almost 17 km² large municipal area is covered by forest.
Puttelange-aux-Lacs is about ten kilometers from Sarreguemines and thus from the French-German border.
The district of Dieffenbach-lès-Puttelange belongs to Puttelange-aux-Lacs .
The neighboring communities of Puttelange-aux-Lacs are Loupershouse , Guebenhouse , Ernestviller , Grundviller , Rémering-lès-Puttelange , Saint-Jean-Rohrbach and Hoste .
history
In 1069 the first written evidence of a settlement called Putilinga is found . Heinrich IV., Count von Salm, has been handed down as the owner of Puttelange Castle for 1274 and the Counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken for 1409 .
In 1811 the place Diffenbach was incorporated into Puttelange. Until 1971 the community was called Puttelange-lès-Farschviller .
Puttelange was on the Maginot Line . In 1944 large parts of the city and with it the remains of the castle were destroyed.

Economy and Infrastructure
There are 13 farms in the community (cereal cultivation, fish farming). There are also small craft and service companies. Due to the favorable location between the industrial areas in Sarreguemines, Sarralbe and Freyming-Merlebach, numerous residents of the city commute to their jobs.
National roads 56 ( Saint-Avold - Sarralbe ) and 74 ( Nancy - Sarreguemines ) cross in Puttelange-aux-Lacs . The city also has a direct connection to the Paris-Strasbourg motorway - but only from and to the west. The nearest train station is in Loupershouse, four kilometers to the north, on the Béning- Sarreguemines- Bitche railway line .

The lakes around Puttelange-aux-Lacs attract many water sports and fishing tourists in the summer season. The annual city festival takes place on the 1st Sunday after October 17th.
