Holving (Lorraine: Holwinge ) is a French commune with 1290 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It is part of the Sarreguemines arrondissement and the Sarralbe canton . The inhabitants are called the Holvingeois .
geography
Holving is west of the small town of Sarralbe , in the south are the municipalities of Val-de-Guéblange and Kappelkinger , in the west the municipality Hilsprich and in the northeast the municipality Richeling .
Holving is connected to the national road network via the N 56 (St. Avold - Sarralbe). The closest larger cities are Sarreguemines and Freyming-Merlebach .
The municipality is traversed by the Mutterbach river, which flows into the Albe .
The community consists of six villages: Ballering, Bettring, Diederfing, Holving, Hinsing and Hirbach, Hirbach being the largest village.
In Hirbach there are several campsites at the Hirbacher Weiher.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1225 as Holbingen , then Halbingen (1226), and Holvingen (1238).
The Hirbacher Weiher (52 h) was built as part of the Maginot Line in 1939 to defend France against Germany. Today it is a popular leisure destination.
