The Wustrower Dumme is an approximately 26 km long, left or western tributary of the Jeetzel (Jeetze) in Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony (Germany).

Surname

The river name "Dumme", first mentioned in 1343 as de stupid , is of Germanic origin. The name is possibly derived from the old Low German dumba "dust (cloud)" or dumma "fog blanket". Most likely, however, is the derivation from the also Old Low German dumb or Old High German  tumb "dumb". The name thus indicates the slow flow speed of the water.

course

The stupid runs in the border area between Altmark in the south and Wendland in the north, in parts it is the border river between Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt . In its course it passes Bergen an der Dumme before it joins the Jeetzel coming from the south at Wustrow .
