The Salzwedeler Dumme is a left or western tributary of the Jeetze (also: Jeetzel) in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany).

Surname

The river name "Dumme", first mentioned in 1343 as de stupid , is of Germanic origin. Possibly the name derives from the old Low German dumba 'dust (cloud)' or dumma 'fog blanket'. Most likely, however, the derivation from the also Old Low German dumb or Old High German  tumb , 'mute'. The name thus indicates the slow flow speed of the water.

course

The Salzwedeler Dumme runs a few kilometers south of the border with the neighboring state of Lower Saxony in the Altmark . It rises near Neuekrug -Höddelsen and passes in its course as the community Dähre and ends in Salzwedel in the coming from the south Jeetze .
