Loutzviller ( German Lutzweiler , Lorraine Luzwiller ) is a French commune with 150 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Sarreguemines and the Canton of Bitche . The inhabitants call themselves Loutzvillerois .
geography
The small village is located in the northern Vosges and lies in the extreme northeast of Lorraine opposite Brenschelbach on the border with the Saarpfalz district on the D 351 road from Bitche to Zweibrücken . The municipality is part of the Palatinate Forest-Vosges du Nord biosphere reserve .
history
The village was first mentioned in a description of the life of Saint Pirminius , who died in the nearby Hornbach monastery in 753, under the name Ludo-Villare . This is said to be derived from a male given name Ludo . The Counts of Zweibrücken-Bitsch placed the place under the patronage of Bouzonville Abbey in 1115 .
In terms of church, Loutzviller was a parish for the surrounding villages of Rolbing , Breidenbach and Schweyen until 1802 , today the pastor of Volmunster is responsible.
Politically, Loutzviller belonged to the canton of Breidenbach , which no longer existed, from 1790 to 1802 , then from 1802 to 2015 to the canton of Volmunster , which also no longer existed, and since then to the canton Bitche. From 1802 to 1866 Loutzviller formed an administrative community with the neighboring town of Schweyen.

The Loutzviller Mühle, located directly on the border with Saarland in the Schwalb valley, is developing into a spiritual center with a focus on people and horses .
The European Mill Cycle Path , which runs through the valleys of Hornbach , Schwalb and Bickenalb , also passes the Loutzviller mill .
