The Hornbach (French La Horn ) is a tributary of the Schwarzbach . The Hornbach rises in France , near the town of Bitsch and flows to Rhineland-Palatinate ( Germany ). The length of the river in France is 27.6 km.

geography

course

The Hornbach rises at an altitude of 315  m about 400 m south of the Entenbaechel pond and south of Bitsch.

It first flows through the Hasselfurter Weiher (French étang de Hasselfurth ) and flows north via Bitsch, Hanviller and Bousseviller to Waldhouse . The almost equally strong Trualbe joins here from the right. For the next 12 km or so the body of water now has both names side by side. The Hornbach forms the state border between Rolbing in Lorraine and Riedelberg in the Palatinate .

Then he enters the district of Südwestpfalz and turns west at the Kirschbacher Mühle, where the Felsalb joins from the right. On the further route via Dietrichingen and Mauschbach to the town of Hornbach , the water often overflows its banks in spring. At Hornbach the Schwalb joins from the left . Then the agricultural valley runs north again. In this section it is also used by the B 424 and a popular long-distance cycle path that runs on the former route of the Hornbachbahn . After Althornbach , the body of water leaves the district of Südwestpfalz and reaches the urban district of Zweibrücken with the Rimschweiler district . Shortly before Ixheim , the Bickenalb joins from the left , which rises in Kleinrederchingen in Lorraine and then runs a few kilometers through the Saarland . The railway line has also been preserved up to this point, as there is a large wire and nail factory on the right side of the stream that was once of international importance.

Alongside the BAB 8 , the brook is now largely canalised and finally flows into the Schwarzbach from the left at a height of around 219  m in the Bubenhausen district , which in turn flows into the Blies shortly afterwards .

Its 32.8 km long run ends 96 meters below its source, so it has an average bed gradient of 2.9 ‰.
