View from the west of Großsteinhausen

Großsteinhausen is a municipality in the Südwestpfalz district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Zweibrücken-Land .

geography

The community Großsteinhausen is located near the French border between the independent cities of Zweibrücken and Pirmasens . To the west of it is the local community of Dietrichingen , to the northeast Kleinsteinhausen and south of Riedelberg .

history

Großsteinhausen was first mentioned in a document in 1250. There, Count Reinhard von Blieskastel , Herr zu Bitsch, settles an inheritance dispute between the brothers Johannes, Hesso, Reinhard and Otto von Steinhausen and the Abbot of Stürzelbronn. Seven years later, in 1257, a deed of donation points to the old church of Großsteinhausen, when Abbot Hugo von Hornbach bequeathed the church square to the Stürzelbronn monastery . The Cyriacus Chapel was written records show already completed 1264th The vicar von Walschbronn held weekly church services here. The old church was torn down to its foundations in the middle of the last century.

Großsteinhausen and Kleinsteinhausen belonged to the Duchy of Lorraine . Lieutenants were the lords of Ettendorf , an Alsatian aristocratic family who had their seat at Hohenfels Castle near Neunhofen. In 1362 Reinhold von Ettendorf pledged the village to Count Walram von Zweibrücken and Boemund von Ettendorf did the same in 1385, who gave half of his fiefs to nobleman Albrecht von Zweibrücken as a pledge. The knightly family of Ettendorfer died out in 1413.

Großsteinhausen fell to the dukes of Pfalz-Zweibrücken , who at times lent the village to Zweibrücker Burgmanns and noble families. Thus Großsteinhausen was assigned to the Nünschweilerhof in the Oberamt Zweibrücken. In the 18th century the place received its own mayor's office . In 1798 it became the mayor's office , together with Kleinsteinhausen and Riedelberg.

In 1905 Groß- und Kleinsteinhausen were still united in one office and, especially after the Second World War, neighboring towns were also administered. When it was integrated into the Zweibrücken-Land association in 1972, the mayor's office was dissolved.

Monastery mill

The Großsteinhausen mill, first mentioned in 1485 as the Hornbacher Klostermühle in the Trualbe Valley, also belongs to Großsteinhausen. There is the Großsteinhauserhof, which was built in the Second World War and is considered a relic of the so-called Reichserbhof program and is still referred to as the “Erbhof” today.
