View of Kleinsteinhausen

Kleinsteinhausen is a municipality in the district of Südwestpfalz in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Zweibrücken-Land .

geography

The place is located in the west of the district of Südwestpfalz in a fertile valley, south of the Felsalb , equidistant from Zweibrücken and Pirmasens , near the border with France . Großsteinhausen is to the southwest , Walshausen to the north and Bottenbach to the southeast .

history

Kleinsteinhausen belonged to the Duchy of Lorraine in earlier times . Often the owner of the village changed. Reinhold von Ettendorf , Herr zu Hohenfels , pledged Groß- und Kleinsteinhausen to Count Walram von Zweibrücken in a document dated December 17, 1362 (Darmstadt State Archives) . This is the oldest evidence in which Kleinsteinhausen is explicitly mentioned. In 1385 Boemund von Ettendorf pledged it to the nobleman Albrecht von Zweibrücken. From this it received in 1398 the knight Heinrich Eckebrecht von Dürkheim zu Afterlehen . When the Ettendorf family died out in 1413, Kleinsteinhausen came to Pfalz-Zweibrücken . In 1417 E. Hesse von Esche is named as a fief of Duke Stephan von Zweibrücken. In 1454 Jakob von Esche, 1486–1493 Wilhelm von Esche, is a feudal man. Later Eberhart Brendel von Hohenburg, who was a bailiff at Neukastel, is mentioned here. In 1502 his son Johann becomes a fiefdom holder. In 1511 N. v. Bitsch, called Gentersberger, Herr von Kleinsteinhausen. The Stürzelbrunn monastery near Bitsch also had a tithe in Kleinsteinhausen, which was acquired in 1558 by the Zweibrücken Duke Wolfgang for 1000 guilders from the Stürzelbronn abbot Anastasius. From then on, the place belonged entirely to the Duchy of Zweibrücken.

In the Middle Ages, a large part of the area belonged to the Hornbach Monastery . The monastery was finally abolished in the course of the Reformation in 1557. After the Thirty Years War , the land was used as pastureland by the inhabitants. When the land was found to be owned by the monastery, it was divided among the parishioners in 1740. During this time, many emigrated to the United States due to the dire food situation.

Due to its border location, Kleinsteinhausen was badly affected in the Second World War. At the beginning of the war, the residents were evacuated to Thuringia and Franconia. Due to war damage and demolition damage and the deforestation of a larger part of the community forest (creation of fields of fire), the place was hardly recognizable after the war.

coat of arms

Kleinsteinhausen coat of arms
Blazon : “Square, in field 1 ( top right ) in gold a blue-armed and -tunged red eagle, in 2 in red a gold urn with red zigzag ribbon patterns running in opposite directions, diagonally on the left with a small golden letter" k ", in 3 in black golden tower made of three tapered, covered steps with black portal and in 4 gold a continuous, black St. Andrew's cross. "

It was approved on July 17, 1982 by the Rheinhessen-Pfalz district government .

Justification of the coat of arms: The continuous black St. Andrew's cross and the red eagle in gold come from the coat of arms of the lords of Ettendorf, who ruled there in the 13th and 14th centuries.

The lords of Ettendorf, who used to be wealthy in Großsteinhausen and Kleinsteinhausen, had a red eagle in a four-part shield in the 1st and 4th field in gold and a black St. Andrew's cross in the 2nd and 3rd field, also in gold. An eagle and a St. Andrew's cross were taken over and placed in fields 1 and 4 of the new coat of arms. The second field shows the letter K - reference to the place name - and next to it an urn as an example of the important Celtic finds. Finally, in the third field, a gate or stone house appears based on the place name, as well as the family of the stone houses, which is also said to have been wealthy in Kleinsteinhausen.
