The village of Erfweiler

Erfweiler is a municipality in the district of Südwestpfalz in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Dahner Felsenland , which has its administrative seat in the city of Dahn and within which it is the fifth largest local community in terms of population. Erfweiler is a state-approved resort .

location

Erfweiler lies in the German part of the Wasgau , as the southern part of the Palatinate Forest and the adjoining northern part of the Vosges are also called, and belongs to the Dahn-Annweiler Felsenland subunit and within it to the Dahner Felsenland . 82.5 percent of the district area is forested. Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Hauenstein , Schwanheim , Busenberg , Schindhard and Dahn.

In the east at the district triangle to Schwanheim and Busenberg, the 476.7  m above sea level extends . NN high Wolfshorn and southwest of this on the border to Busenberg the Eichelberg . The Mitel-Schachen and Winterberg ( 460.8  m above sea level ) and west of this the Trögenberg ( 323.2  m above sea level ) and further south of the Wölmersberg stretches along the boundary with Hauenstein . The Kahlenberg ( 399  m above sea level ) is on the border with Schindhard and the Schlossberg ( 323.1  m above sea level ) on the border with Dahn .

Waters

The Langenbach flows through the village in a north-south direction . At the southern edge of the development this takes up the Breitenbach from the left .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1353. After the Dahner Ritter and Ludwig II died out on September 15, 1603, he belonged to the Speyer Monastery .

From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Erfweiler was incorporated into the canton of Dahn . In 1815 the place Austria was added. Just one year later, the community moved to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 the place was part of the Landkommissariat Pirmasens , which was converted into a district office in 1862.

In 1939 Erfweiler was incorporated into the district of Pirmasens (from 1997 district of Südwestpfalz ) . After the Second World War , the municipality within the French occupation zone became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate. In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , the place became part of the newly created community of Dahner Felsenland . In 1995 Erfweiler became the national winner in the competition Our village should become more beautiful , after the community had already been awarded second place in this competition in 1977.

In 2012, 73.6 percent of the population were Catholic and 14.9 percent Protestant. The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational. The Catholics belong to the Diocese of Speyer , the Protestants to the Protestant Church of the Palatinate .

Walter Schwartz (CDU) became the local mayor of Erfweiler in 2004. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for a further five years with a share of the vote of 87.08%. Walter Schwartz's predecessor was Wolfgang Frary.

In the municipality there are a total of 29 objects that are under monument protection , including the Winter Church .

The municipality is located in the Palatinate Forest Nature Park , which in turn belongs to the Palatinate Forest-Vosges du Nord Biosphere Reserve . In the Erfweiler district there are also around a dozen rock formations that are classified as natural monuments , including the Hegerturm . The place is part of the climbing area Palatinate Forest .

At the boundary of Hauenstein there was once a 300-year-old oak, popularly known as the thick oak . After becoming a victim of vandalism in 1994, she was said to be in 2011. She acted as the namesake for the hiking home "Dicke Eiche", which is already on the Hauensteiner side .
