history
The place Bundenthal is mentioned for the first time in a document from Emperor Ludwig of Bavaria from September 22nd, 1342 as "Wuntental". The local government had from 1648 until the French Revolution , the taverns of Waldenburg held.
From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Bundenthal was incorporated into the canton of Dahn . In 1815 the place Austria was added. Just one year later, the community moved to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 the place was part of the Landkommissariat Pirmasens , which was converted into a district office in 1862. In 1834 the neighboring village of Finsternheim was incorporated , which was first mentioned in a contract between Count Walraff von Zweibrücken and Abbot Eberhard von Weißenburg .
In 1939, Bundenthal was incorporated into the district of Pirmasens (from 1997 district of Südwestpfalz ) . After the Second World War , the municipality within the French occupation zone became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , Bundenthal lost its independence on June 7, 1969, as the place was combined with Bruchweiler-Bärenbach to form the new municipality of Wieslautern . After protests by the population, Wieslautern was dissolved by state law on June 17, 1989 and Bundenthal was independent again. Since then, the restored local community of Bundenthal has belonged to the Dahner Felsenland community, which was created in 1972 .

In 1911, the community was connected to the railway network when the Wieslauterbahn , which began in Hinterweidenthal and ended in Bundenthal , was opened. The station was named Bundenthal-Rumbach because it was designed as a common train station with the neighboring Rumbach. After passenger traffic was discontinued in 1966, it has been operating again since 1997 for excursion traffic. At times, however, the route was in danger again, as it was claimed by the nearby town of Dahn for an inner-city relief road. From 1921 to 1930, Bundenthal was also the starting point for the narrow-gauge Wasgauwald Railway , which ran via Rumbach and Fischbach to Ludwigswinkel .
The state roads 478 and 489 also lead through the village ; the former runs from the Saarland border to the French border at Wissembourg and the latter from Reichenbach via Bruchweiler-Bärenbach to Bundenthal. In addition, the district road 46 , which runs from Rumbach to Niederschlettenbach, runs through the Bundenthal municipal area at two points. In addition, the community has a small airport with a runway.

The community is the eastern end of the Hornbach-Fleckenstein-Radweg , which leads to Hornbach. In addition, with the biosphere tour and the Pamina cycle path Lautertal, two further cycle paths run through Bundenthal; the former runs in the district between Dahn, Fischbach bei Dahn and Rumbach and the latter connects the community with Hinterweidenthal and Neuburg am Rhein .
