Palatinate Forest mountain bike park

The Palatinate Forest Mountain Bike Park is a more than 900 kilometer network of routes for mountain bikes in the center of the Palatinate Forest Nature Park .

The Gäsbockbiker mountain bike marathon has been taking place in the Palatinate Forest since 2001 and attracted more and more participants in the following years.

Mountain bike park

The Palatinate Forest Mountain Bike Park was opened in April 2005 with five signposted tours and a mountain bike route network of around 300 kilometers in the Palatinate Forest Nature Park and Biosphere Reserve. In the same year the Kuratorium Sport und Natur eV awarded the mountain bike park the environmental award for a particularly successful combination of nature conservation and nature sports. In 2010, the 10-year bike park anniversary was celebrated with several events and the German Initiative Mountainbike eV (DIMB) awarded the varied tour network the best in Germany with four stars. In the justification, the high proportion of single trails was referred to. In 2014, the optimized mountain bike tour number 4 of the bike park was certified by DIMB as a "Premium Trail Tour".

In 2016, the 16th Gäsbock Mountain Bike Marathon with around 600 participants took place on the routes of the mountain bike park under the motto “Sweet Little Sixteen”. In the same year, 15 new routes were added through an extension. This increased the mountain bike route network to over 900 kilometers of signposted trails.

Well-known professional cyclists like Karl Platt and Udo Bölts regularly use the bike park as a training route.

The signposted tours have different levels of difficulty and are suitable for both sport and leisure:

Center Palatinate Forest

In the center of the Palatinate Forest are tours 1 to 6, which are between 50 and 70 km long and climb between 770 and 1,570 meters in altitude. The tours are each designed in the shape of an eight, so that only half a tour can be driven:

Southern Wine Route

Tours 7 to 10 are located on the southern wine route in the area around Annweiler and Bad Bergzabern, which are between 29 and 51 km long and have an altitude difference between 840 and 1,480 meters:

Wasgau

In the area of ​​Hauenstein and Dahn there are tours 11 to 16, which are between 24 and 78 km long and climb between 640 and 1,990 meters in altitude:

Pirmasens

In the southwest of the Palatinate Forest in the area of ​​Pirmasens, Lemberg and Eppenbrunn are tours 17 to 20, which are 24 to 59 km in length and between 530 and 1,240 meters in altitude:

  • Tour 17 Eppenbrunn (Pirmasens-Land-Süd) - from the Eppenbrunn amusement park, 60 km, 970 m elevation gain
  • Tour 18 Lemberg / Langmühle (Pirmasens-Land-Mitte) - from the Rudolf-Keller-Haus , 43 km, 990 m ascent

Special routes and courses

There are several special routes and courses with freeride dirt parks, technical and single trail courses, North Shore or cross-country routes for a variety of riding techniques in the Palatinate Forest Mountain Bike Park:

  • Bike Park Trippstadt - routes and obstacles with different levels of difficulty; a dirt area, a children's course, a downhill track and a technology section; Sports facility for learning and challenging mountain bike training.
  • Singletrail Technikparcours Hochspeyer - Over 3 km of single trails in various degrees of difficulty; Slalom routes with switchbacks in various degrees of difficulty.
  • Technique course Schopp - "Entry" into the world of mountain biking; Almost all driving situations occurring in the wild are simulated at a total of 15 different stations; A CC race track is in the immediate vicinity.

Sponsorship

The Palatinate Forest Touristik , consisting of the municipalities of Kaiserslautern-Süd , Lambrecht (Palatinate) , Rodalben and Waldfischbach-Burgalben as well as the former municipality of Hochspeyer , planned and implemented the project in cooperation with the state forest administration and the University of Kaiserslautern .

The administration of the mountain bike park Palatinate Forest is carried out today by the association municipality Kaiserslautern-Süd .
