Bottenbach is a municipality in the Südwestpfalz district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Pirmasens Land Association .

geography

Bottenbach is located about two kilometers north of the French border between Pirmasens and Zweibrücken in the southern part of the Palatinate Forest . It is the westernmost municipality in the Verbandsgemeinde Pirmasens-Land. The place is named after the stream of the same name, which can also be seen on the coat of arms.

The Bergwiesenhof, Gärtelbacherhof and Pirmannsteinerhof residential areas also belong to Bottenbach .

history

Until the end of the 18th century, the place belonged to the duchy of Palatinate-Zweibrücken .

After 1792 French revolutionary troops occupied the region and annexed it after the Peace of Campo Formio (1797) . From 1798 to 1814 the village belonged to the French department of Donnersberg and was assigned to the canton of Neuhornbach . Due to the agreements reached at the Congress of Vienna (1815) and an exchange contract with Austria , the region became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1816 . From 1818 the community of Bottenbach was part of the Zweibrücken regional commissioner in the Bavarian Rhine district , later to the Zweibrücken district office, from which the Zweibrücken district emerged in 1938 . Bottenbach was added to the Pirmasens district (today: Südwestpfalz district ) as part of the administrative reform in 1972 .

The local council in Bottenbach consists of twelve council members, who were elected in a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman. In the previous elections, the council members were elected in a personalized proportional representation.

Klaus Weber (CDU) became the local mayor of Bottenbach on July 24, 2019. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was elected for five years with 88.60% of the vote. Weber's predecessor Helmut Schmitt (CDU) had held the office for ten years.
