Steffen Korell (born October 27, 1971 in Zweibrücken ) is a former German soccer player .

Life

The 1.80 m tall defensive all-rounder played for SV Bottenbach in his youth . His professional career started in the 1990/91 season with the then second division club FC 08 Homburg . For SC Freiburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach , he played a total of 117 Bundesliga games and 190 second division games. Due to cartilage damage, Korell ended his active career on February 2, 2005.

After that, Korell was part of the sporting “competence team” at Borussia as a team manager , which includes sports director Max Eberl , among others . As a link between the team and the sporting management, he primarily supported new players: he helped with dealing with authorities and looking for accommodation and organized German courses if necessary. He watched the Borussia games from the stands and supported the coach's game analysis. Korell was also used to monitor upcoming opponents or potential future players. He also organized test matches as well as summer and winter training camps.

Korell is currently head of the scouting department at Borussia Mönchengladbach. After the end of the 2017/18 season, Christofer Heimeroth took over the tasks of team manager .

Korell is an industrial clerk and a certified sports specialist . He is married and has a son.
