Career
Club career
Youth and Schalke 04
Christofer Heimeroth began his career with SG Massen . Scouts from Borussia Dortmund saw him in his time at BSV Menden and took him to Dortmund, where he played from 1996 to 1997 in the junior department. After another two years with Sportfreunde Oestrich-Iserlohn , he joined the A-youth team of FC Schalke 04 in 1999 . In 2002 he was in the professional squad when Schalke won the DFB Cup .
Borussia Monchengladbach
For the 2006/07 season, Borussia Mönchengladbach announced Heimeroth's commitment. In his first season he was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga with Borussia. While he was reserve goalkeeper in the relegation season except for a few games, Heimeroth was number 1 in goal in the 2007/08 season, since the contract with the previous goalkeeper Kasey Keller was not extended. This season he rose again to the first division with Borussia Mönchengladbach.
On the 7th matchday of the 2008/09 season he lost his place between the posts because interim coach Christian Ziege had not considered him for the game in Bochum after some mistakes . On Ziege's recommendation, the new coach Hans Meyer initially also preferred Uwe Gospodarek , but shortly before the winter break he also let Heimeroth play again. During the winter break, Borussia Mönchengladbach finally sorted out Gospodarek from the first team, while Heimeroth was retained as the second goalkeeper behind Borussia's newly signed goalkeeper Logan Bailly . In the first half of the 2010/11 Bundesliga season Heimeroth moved back as a regular goalkeeper between the posts after a series of defeats, but lost his regular place again at the end of the 2010/11 season, this time to Marc-André ter Stegen .
On December 6, 2012 Heimeroth played his first international game in the competition of the UEFA Europa League when he was preferred to regular goalkeeper Ter Stegen in the final group game against Fenerbahçe Istanbul .
Heimeroth ended his active career at the end of the 2017/18 season. Since then he has been working as a team manager at Borussia.
