Logan Bailly (born December 27, 1985 in Liège ) is a Belgian football goalkeeper who has been with Royal Excel Mouscron since 2017 .

Club career

Career start in Belgium

Logan Bailly played in his youth until 1999 with Cheratte and the RFC Liège from his native city. He then went to major city rivals Standard Liège at the age of 13 . In 2002 the young goalkeeper was signed as a substitute by the Belgian champions at the time, KRC Genk . For the 2003/04 season, Bailly went on loan with ten other players from his team to the 1st division promoted KVV Heusden-Zolder and made 16 missions, including his first division debut. Despite the large number of player commitments, he could not prevent relegation with Heusden-Zolder at the end of the season, whereupon he returned to KRC Genk. There he initially remained a substitute goalkeeper due to his lack of experience and only made two league appearances in two years. He played his first game for Genk on February 25, 2005 in the 0-1 away defeat at his former club Standard Liège. The goalkeeper was substituted on for Thomas Chatelle after a red card for regular goalkeeper Jan Moons in the 41st minute . In the 2006/07 season , Bailly was able to prevail as a regular player and completed all season games with one exception. He did not concede 14 times and was involved in second place in the table and qualifying for the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League of Genker. In the Champions League, his club was eliminated the following season in the second qualifying round against Bosnian champions FK Sarajevo after a 2-2 draw due to the away goals rule. Also in the league it was not so successful for Bailly and his team and after the strong preseason they only reached tenth place in the table.

Borussia Monchengladbach

On December 22, 2008, the Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach signed Bailly. Borussia provided the goalkeeper with a contract until June 30, 2013. As Borussia goalkeeper, Bailly immediately impressed with strong performances. After the relegation prevented at the end of the season, he was elected player of the season at Mönchengladbach, although he was only signed during the winter break. In the 2009/10 season the Belgian played with Borussia in midfield of the league and ended up twelfth in the table. During the game against Schalke 04 on April 17, 2010, he prepared the interim equalizer from Raúl Bobadilla by teeing off (final score 1: 3) and thus earned a scorer point . On the 10th day of the first half of the 2010/11 season, Bailly was a substitute goalkeeper under coach Michael Frontzeck . After the commitment of Lucien Favre as the new coach, he was initially again goalkeeper, but replaced from the 29th matchday by Marc-André ter Stegen . Mönchengladbach landed in 16th place in the table and was only just able to prevent relegation in the relegation games against VfL Bochum . During the 2011 summer break, Borussia Mönchengladbach awarded Bailly to Swiss first division club Neuchâtel Xamax for a year . At the beginning of January 2012, the loan agreement was terminated due to outstanding salary payments.

Return to Belgium

After the unsuccessful loan in Neuchâtel, Bailly initially kept fit with his former club KRC Genk and flew to the training camp with the Belgians. A few days later, the KRC agreed with Borussia Mönchengladbach to borrow Baillys until the end of the season with the option of an extension. For the 2012/13 season he finally dissolved his contract with Borussia and moved to Oud-Heverlee Löwen . In Leuven Bailly was immediately the goalkeeper and reached with his club in the 2012/13 season the qualification for the Europa League playoff of the Belgian league. There they were clearly defeated by the KAA Gent club with 2: 8 in two games. The quite successful season could not be repeated in 2013/14 . As penultimate, Bailly's team had to compete this time in the relegation relegation against the bottom of the league RAEC Mons and was successful there. For a non-relegation, however, the club would also have to win the subsequent promotion relegation of the second division. In the end, Royal Mouscron-Péruwelz prevailed and Löwen had to move into the second division. Goalkeeper Bailly stayed with Löwen and started the season well with his team. In the first period, they secured participation in the promotion playoffs, which Lions then won without defeat at the end of the season and thus made the immediate promotion perfect.

Celtic Glasgow

In July 2015, Bailly signed a three-year contract with the Scottish first division club Celtic Glasgow . He made his debut for Celtic on August 22, 2015 in a 3-1 away win in the league game against Dundee United .

National team

In March 2007 Logan Bailly was appointed by national coach René Vandereycken for the first time in the squad of the Belgian national football team, but was not used. In the U-21 national team he was a set goalkeeper and played a. a. at the 2007 European Under-21 Football Championship in the Netherlands . At the 2008 Summer Olympics , he was also the goalkeeper of the selection and came with his team to the semi-finals. In March 2009, Bailly was called up again for the Belgian national team, but it was not until the new Belgian national coach Dick Advocaat put him on for the first time in the senior team on October 10, 2009 in a 2-0 win against Turkey .

Personal

Logan Bailly and his girlfriend became parents to a daughter on April 19, 2005, whose name Bailly had a tattoo on his arm.

In 2007 he received the award for Belgium's sexiest footballer of the year from the Belgian television channel één and the weekly newspaper HUMO .

6 June 2011 Bailly was condemned by the 12th Criminal Chamber of the Liege Palais de Justice to five months imprisonment, the execution of which on probation was suspended. On May 16, 2005, he and his brother Kevin seriously injured two Standard Liege fans in the parking lot in front of the “La Maison du Peket” restaurant in Liege .
