FK Sarajevo stands for Fudbalski klub Sarajevo (Sarajevo Football Club). The Sarajevo club is one of the best known and most successful in Bosnia and Herzegovina . During the Yugoslav period, FK Sarajevo was a regular participant in the first Yugoslav football league . Today the club from Sarajevo plays in the Premier League . City rivals are Bosnia's record champions FK Željezničar Sarajevo and FK Olimpik Sarajevo .
history
FK Sarajevo was founded on October 24, 1946. A merger between FK Udarnik and SDM Sarajevo resulted in the association. Since 1950, FK Sarajevo has been a regular participant in the first Yugoslav football league. In the 1964/1965 season, FK Sarajevo was runner-up in Yugoslavia. In the 1966/1967 season, FK Sarajevo won the Yugoslav football championship for the first time and thus interrupted the longstanding superiority of the football clubs from Serbia and Croatia.
The club quickly became known nationwide, as it played many international matches in the most important competitions in Europe. The years 1957–1967 are among the most successful of the club. At that time, well-known players such as Mirsad Fazlagić, Vahidin Musemić and Asim Ferhatović played at FK Sarajevo.
In the 1967/1968 season, FK Sarajevo played in the European Cup . In the first round the team played against Olympiakos Nicosia in Nicosia 2-2 and won 3-1 at home in the Koševo stadium and thus reached the second round. In the second round they had to play against Manchester United from England. At home they played 0-0 and at Old Trafford, FK Sarajevo lost 1-2.
Asim Ferhatović's resignation in 1968 shook Sarajevo's sports fans. In memory of the footballer, the Sarajevo rock band Zabranjeno pušenje wrote the song Nedelja kad je otišo Hase (Sunday when the hare went) in the 1980s . The most famous newspaper from Sarajevo, Oslobodenje, wrote Jedan je Hase (There is only one hare). Even after the resignation of Asim Ferhatović, FK Sarajevo continued to play very successfully. From 1948 to 1982 FK Sarajevo played a total of 226 international football matches on four continents. He won 107 of them, drew 58 times and lost 61 times with a goal difference of 570: 383.
The early 1980s was the club's second “golden era”. In 1980 he was first Yugoslav runner-up. In 1982 he reached the 3rd round of the UEFA Cup , where he lost to the eventual winner RSC Anderlecht. In 1985 the team played as the Yugoslav national champion again in the European Cup , led by the legendary Bosnian player Safet Sušić.
The 1990s were the hardest times for FK Sarajevo. As a result of the Bosnian War , the entire cultural and sporting life in the capital Sarajevo practically came to a standstill. In 1994, FK Sarajevo played a friendly against an UNPROFOR selection, which they won 4-1.
Since the end of the war in Bosnia, FK Sarajevo has played in the Bosnian Premijer League . It is one of the most successful clubs in the country's young history. For the 25th anniversary of the first participation in the European Cup, Safet Sušić was voted the best player in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2001. Asim Ferhatović came in third.

Fans
The Ultras of FK Sarajevo are called Horde Zla (Eng. Hordes of Evil), which have often been involved in arguments with opposing fans. So it came on October 4, 2009, before the first division game between NK Široki Brijeg, a Croatian-dominated club, and FK Sarajevo to one of the worst riots in Bosnia and Herzegovina. After clashes between the two rival fan groups and the police near Mostar, a supporter of FK Sarajevo was fatally wounded by a fire from a firearm and 18 police officers and 15 supporters were injured, 6 of them seriously. The perpetrator who shot the trailer is said to have been a former member of the former Croatian Defense Council ( Hrvatsko vijece obrane, HVO ).
There is a very close fan friendship with the German second division club Dynamo Dresden .
