The FK Olimpic (former FK Olimpik ) is a football club in the Bosnian capital Sarajevo . It was launched under difficult circumstances during the Bosnian War and the Siege of Sarajevo in October 1993.

history

In the 1994/95 season, the club took part in the Bosnian championship. At that time, the Bosnian League was divided into regions. Their group winners and runners-up then played the championship among themselves in the knockout phase. FK Olimpik Sarajevo faced the traditional clubs FK Sloboda Tuzla , Gradina Srebrenik and NK Travnik in the group stage and finished the championship in third place.

After the end of the war in 1995/96, the club took part in the new Bosnian league, which consisted of sixteen clubs. Olimpik finished the season in fifteenth place and was relegated to the second division in a row. In the meantime, the club only played in the third division, but managed to return to the second division in the 2007/08 season. A year later, they returned to the top division.

Olimpik's first major cup success was in the 2000/01 season. The Sarajevans defeated teams like Butmir, Mramor and Radnik Bijeljina , but had to admit defeat to city rivals FK Željezničar in the quarterfinals 4-0 in the return leg. No major results followed until the 2008/09 season, after a long time they reached the quarter-finals again. Teams like Iskra Bugojno and NK Travnik were beaten, but Olimpik failed again against a city rival, this time against FK Slavija. In 2015, Olimpik won the soccer cup on penalties against NK Široki Brijeg . This success is also the greatest success in the club's history.
