Bordeaux red denotes a red color that merges into a light purple .

The origin of the name are the wines from the region around the French city of Bordeaux , which is the center of one of the most important wine-growing regions in the world. This special shade is perceived as the ideal color for a red wine. It is one of the few colors that are named after cities or regions (other examples: Parisian or Berlin blue , magenta , imperial yellow ).
