The football department has existed since Örebro SK was founded in 1908 and is called Örebro SK Fotboll (FK). In the beginning they played in the city class (Örebroserien). In 1920 the first full-time coach Hjalmar Bergman was hired and you could take part in the Swedish championship for the first time. At the time, it was held as a knockout tournament (because of the great distances in Sweden). Örebro SK was eliminated in the third round against IFK Uddevalla .
In 1923 the Eyravallen stadium was inaugurated. In 1926 they qualified for Division 1. In the year there was a restructuring of the league operations as a result of which the club was relegated to Division 3 (3rd division) due to its relatively poor seasonal performance.
In 1933 they rose to the second division, but in 1936 again. For the 1941 season Örebro SK was back in Division 2 Östra and under the German coach Werner Löwenthal you could qualify for the first time for the Allsvenskan in 1946. The ÖSK rose again after one season in 1947. After playing in the Allsvenskan again in 1949 and also relegated immediately, the club was able to hold onto the Allsvenskan for the first time in 1952 (8th place), but only for one more season.
After a few years in the second division, Örebro SK rose under coach Ovar Bergmark (who was still a player himself) in the first division, the Allsvenskan , in 1960 (qualification against IFK Kristianstad and IFK Luleå ). The first Allsvenskasaision (1961) after the ascent was completed with 4th place and in the home game against Degerfors IF with 20,066 spectators, the audience record still valid today. In the following years, Örebro SK established itself in the Allsvenskan and the club was the employer of several Swedish national players (e.g. Thomas Nordahl , Sven-Gunnar Larsson , Leif Eriksson ). After 18 years, however, they got down in 1978. Years of sporting consolidation followed, as numerous experienced players ended their careers in the early 1980s.
It was not until 1988 that Rolf Zetterlund succeeded in returning to the Allsvenskan. In the 1990s, the club was able to play its way into the group of championship contenders, so Örebro SK just missed the championship in 1991 (3rd place), 1994 (2nd place), 1997 (4th place) and the championship remained the club continues to fail. On the other hand , the good placements led to some UEFA Cup participations in 1991 ( eliminated against Ajax Amsterdam ), 1992 ( eliminated against KV Mechelen ) and 1997 ( eliminated against Rotor Volgograd ). At the beginning of the new millennium, the placements got worse and Örebro SK was relegated to the Superettan after the 2004 season .
In the second division season 2006 Örebro SK was able to conquer second place in the table on the last day of the game. Örebro SK thus qualified directly for Allsvenskan (2007).
