Tord Grip (born January 13, 1938 in Ytterhogdal , municipality Härjedalen ) is a Swedish football coach and former football and bandy player .

Career

Player career

Grip first played in his youth at Ytterhogdals IK . In 1956 he moved to Degerfors to work for a steel company and study sports on the side. There he played at Degerfors IF in Division 1 . In 1959 he was promoted to the Allsvenskan . In 1966 he moved to league rivals AIK Solna after 119 first division games, in which he scored 41 goals . Here he played 56 games in three seasons and scored 15 goals. In 1969 he switched to the second division KB Karlskoga as a player- coach , where he ended his active career in 1973.

Between 1963 and 1967, Grip played three times for the Swedish national team . He also played twelve B internationals.

Coaching career

After Grip had already been a player-coach at KB Karlskoga between 1969 and 1973, he moved to the coaching bench at Örebro SK in 1974 . After two seasons he returned to his first professional position as a player in 1976 and became a coach at Degerfors IF.

Starting in 1977, supervised grip as assistant coach of Georg Ericson Swedish national team. After the 1978 World Cup , he returned to Örebro SK, but coached Sweden's U-21s at the same time. In 1983 he became head coach at Malmö FF . He was able to win the Swedish Cup twice with the club.

In 1986 Grip went abroad and took over the coaching position at Campobasso Calcio in Italy. In 1987 he became the Norwegian national coach . After a year he returned to club football and looked after the Swiss BSC Young Boys .

From 1991 he worked again as an assistant coach. Under the direction of Tommy Svensson he worked for the Swedish national football team until 1997. In 1995/96 he was still working for the Indonesian Federation when he took over the Olympic team. In 1998 he returned to the Young Boys in April to train them until the summer break.

Grip has been Sven-Göran Eriksson 's assistant since 1998 . Initially, he looked after Lazio Rome with him , where they won the Italian championship in 2000. They later worked together for the English national team . After the 2006 World Cup , they ended their engagement with the English Association. They then looked after Manchester City and later the Mexican national team together . After Eriksson moved to Notts County as a sports director in 2009, he followed him as a consultant until resignation on February 12, 2010 after outstanding salary payments.

In September 2013 the English club FC Southampton Grip signed as a scout for the Scandinavian region. At the end of February he took over the position of assistant coach for the selection coach Albert Bunjaki for the Kosovar national team .
