Georg "Åby" Ericson (born December 18, 1919 in Torshag , † January 4, 2002 in Åby ) was a Swedish football player and coach .

career

Club career

Ericson played for IFK Norrköping in the Allsvenskan in the 1940s . With the club he won the Swedish championship and cup double in 1943 and 1945 . From 1946 to 1948 he became a master three times.

Coaching career

Ericson was Orvar Bergmark's successor as coach of the Swedish national team in 1971 . This he led to the World Championships in 1974 , where the intermediate round was reached, and 1978 , in which the team was eliminated without a win in the preliminary round. After missing the qualification for the European Championship in 1980 , he resigned, Lars Arnesson was his successor.

In 91 international matches under his direction, the Blågult was able to leave the place as a winner 37 times, 19 times there was no winner.

Others

His son Håkan is also a football coach. 2001 to 2003 he worked as assistance act, then as a head coach with IFK Norrkoping.
